Motorola Ming A1200 my new smart phone is just awesome. It gives me all freedom required to play around with the phone and its internals. It runs on “Linux” and it turned out to be a small PC for me. Mobile OS source code is available under GPL. What else is required to explore the mobile technology?

News of Owning Vista from the boot with VBootKit developed by NVlabs Nitin and Vipin is still buzzing around our ear and this year you’ve an another hot news. Guess what?

Yet another tool to unlock the windows box without password is now on internet. It’s HOT.

Boileau, a New Zealand based consultant with Immunity Inc., demoed a tool way back in 2006 to gain Firmware memory access. Years have passed but no solution to this serious issue from Microsoft. Finally Boileau decides to release this tool on his websit. Its called Winlockpwn, bypasses windows authentication via firewire, as demoed at Ruxcon 2006, and released on Risky Business, 2008.

This tool lets you inject the code to modify the Window’s password protection code. All you need is to connect to the target machine via its Firmware port from your Linux-based computer and gain the full write access to its memory.

Radio Sparsha Channel 106 on WorldSpace satellite radio is one of my favorite Radio Channel. It brings an another unique program on air every sunday @ 9:00 AM. A program which awakens Kannadiga’s.  Don’t forget to listen to the program.

A show that’s sure to make every kannadiga from any part of the world sit up and listen.

Anweshane, the show true to its name takes a closer look at the psyche of the Kannadigas to discover why they are the way they are. So tune-in to Anweshane - in search of our identity with Nandini

More about the program from Sparsha webspace :

How or why does any Indian south of the Vindhyas voluntarily become a Madrasi? Why are there no questions raised when people take you to be a Karnatakan and not a Kannadiga?  Why are typical Kannada expressions like saaru and huli becoming outmoded by their replacements rasam and sambaar in the typical Kannada gourmet vocabulary?

Anweshane - In search of our Identity hosted by Professor Nandini Vaidyanathan throws light on all these and more. She dwells on why we do not assert our identity as Kannadigas in all our accomplishments or choose to be casual about being sidelined or elbowed out of opportunities. Nandini also introspects the apparent urgency in shedding the ‘bona fide Kannadiga’ skin and the slow erosion of a regional identity and pride.

Catch Anweshane - In search of our Identity with Nandini, every Sunday, at 9am IST.

Cpanel Blog :: SECURITY ALERT

An arbitrary file inclusion vulnerability has been discovered in the Horde webmail application. At present, we can confirm that this security vulnerability in question affects Horde 3.1.6 and earlier. Based on incomplete information at this time, we also believe this affects Horde Groupware 1.0.4 and earlier as well (cPanel does not use Horde Groupware at this time).

cPanel customers should update their cPanel and WHM servers immediately to prevent any chance of compromise. The patch will be available in builds 11.18.2 and greater (or 11.19.2 and greater for EDGE systems). The updated builds will be available immediately to all fast update servers. The builds will be available to all other update servers within one hour of this posting.

To check which version of cPanel and WHM is on your server, simply log into WebHost Manager (WHM) and look in the top right corner, or execute the following command from the command line as root:

/usr/local/cpanel/cpanel -V

You can upgrade your server by navigating to ‘cPanel’ -> ‘Upgrade to Latest Version’ in WebHost Manager or by executing the following from the command line as root:

/scripts/upcp

It is recommended that all use of Horde 3.1.6 and earlier be stopped (on cPanel and non-cPanel systems alike) until Horde updates can be applied. You can disable Horde on your cPanel system by unchecking the box next to ‘Server Configuration’ -> ‘Tweak Settings’ -> ‘Mail’ -> ‘Horde Webmail’ within WHM, and saving the page with the new settings.

We would like to thank HostGator for providing the initial details in their report of this vulnerability.

Mall’s? Multiplexes? The most “exiting” places? Yes, they are as they are luxurious. But what is really happening out side a Mall here in “Namma BengaLuru“?

View this image carefully. It will tell you the story and put hundreds of questions in front of us.

Fun World near garbage

I took this picture couple of weeks back in Sigma Mall on Cunningham Road.

Do we really care about our environment and city?

Monitoring Mail server queues is always not an easy job. That too when our servers becomes victims of spammers, it takes hell a lot of job to identify the spammer and block him.

Yesterday I came across this wonderful tool called “Isoqlog“written in C. A turkey software development team at EnderUnix has developed this tool to keep and eye on qmail, postfix, sendmail and exim mail server activities by scanning their logs. This tool generates HTML statistics pages which can be accessed via your web browser. It also produces Top domains output according to Sender, Receiver, Total mails and bytes; it keeps your main domain mail statistics with regard to Days Top Domain, Top Users values for per day, per month and years.

It really made my job easier on a qmail server. Now its your turn to try it on your mail servers.Installation of this tool is very simple. Download the latest tarball from EnderUnix.org and follow the other instructions given below :

Evolution-Data Optimized or EvDO yet another wireless telecommunications technology to offer you better internet connectivity on the Go! It offers more mobility and advantages over your WiFi. Learn more about EvDO here.

I always wanted wireless connectivity which is cheap, affordable and reliable. Reliance and TATA Indicom did come out with various solutions with their CDMA products like PCMCIA card for laptop and then USB modules which can be plugged into any computer to gain access to internet. Now almost every one provides one or the other solutions for internet. I always enjoyed the internet on my laptop via reliance CDMA connection on my Nokia cell phones (6255 and 2112) and they were ok and better than the dial-up connections which I used to use at home. It was easy for me to configure the cell phones to work on Linux. Still it was very costly.

I found BSNL EvDO solution much affordable and I could make it work on my Dell M1210 which runs on Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon). It will just cost you 500 + tax every month and you have to give 1000 Rs as initial payment for the device. Once you have the device in your hand, you have unlimited access to internet 24×7. Depending on proximity and the line of sight to the tower EvDO device would give 2.4 MBPS connections. At present in Bangalore average connection speed is 144 kbps. 1X CDMA network towers are still evolving in various parts of the city. In near future we can expect a better connectivity and high bandwidth via these cute little devices which would match broadband speed.
