The above picture shows the website home page of Visvesvaraya Technological University of Karnataka which is accessible at http://vtu.ac.in .
Internet has been an another face for businesses and institutes for people today who are not only technical savvy as technology has been made reachable even to a novice. An university which prepares hundreds of thousands of engineers every year for our state and country, fails to educate its own government paid servants or service providers about various technical aspects related to it’s website.
Why I say so? Just have a look at the home page and various sections. Jump into few more links and see the way it has been designed. Does it really look professional? I used to design such web pages using frontpage when I started learning HTML code 9-10 years back.
Examples are set by great people and institutes to spread the knowledge, awareness which leads to technological growth and it reflects in society. That is what I wanted to see when I browsed this university web page. An extensive info of the university, its operations, courses, projects done by engineers who passed out from the university, social benefits etc. But, I was disappointed by looking at the “immature” quality of the website.
My next question is, how much they might have spent on its development? Did any student get a chance to work on this as a final year project? Is it not explaining why the syllabus of the university is outdated?
I might want to hear few engineering students view on this in response.
