Net connection and its speed are the keys to success. For years I have tried numerous internet connections provided by various ISP’s. Till yesterday I was in a mess and I’m logically offline even after keeping myself online via my Ex-Broadband connection (Yes, I’m done with it this morning)

Now I’m living at high speeds with the help of Huawei EC1260 + Reliance Broadband. Good Speed… Don’t you believe it? Check my speed test results here… Better than the one which I had posted earlier.

Speedtestholding

broadbandkitKit received from Reliance

Configuring that on my Ubuntu Jaunty was so easy just like my earlier dial-up connections via wvdial.

To configure the new modem on Gnu/Linux run the following command in Terminal (You need to have wvdial package installed)

#wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf

Your /etc/wvdial.conf will have the following entries.

# cat /etc/wvdial.conf

[Dialer Defaults]
Init2 = ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0
Modem Type = Analog Modem
; Phone =
ISDN = 0
; Username =
Init1 = ATZ
; Password =
Modem = /dev/ttyUSB0
Baud = 460800

Change the target phone no. to #777 and Username and password need to be set to the Reliance 10 digit number.

And you require an another magical line added to this file. i.e.

Stupid Mode = 1

Once this is done run the following command to get connected.

# wvdial

To terminate the connection you can press CTRL+C.

Let me know if you face any problem while working with it.

    Forgive me if this is not the appriapriate blog for my questions. I had been searching through the web for some help in setting up by new EC1260 reliance usb modem in my laptop (which has win xp pro sp3). For more than a week have not got any good post.

    Even if you cant help me with setting up for Win XP Pro, please let me know one thing. There is a port/jack in the model which looks like a power card or head phone port. Do you know about that / do you use that? What is it for?

    Thanks.

  10. TechFiz says:

    Hi Suresh,

    After inserting the device onto your system, check dmesg output. And then findout the device which gets attached to system.

    You might have to check this post too in case you continue to face the issue.

    http://platonic.techfiz.info/2.....-on-linux/

    I remember mentioning airprime.ko module which needs to be loaded into kernel to get devices working on 8.10 ubuntu.

    Read my other posts on this.

    I recommend upgrading your ubuntu next version to get rid of this issue :) 9.04 is lot stable.
