You got to visit GConf Editor window to have window title like in human theme and also order window controls in classic order on the right side (menu, minimize, maximize close).

This can also be achieved through command line as follows:

If you’re getting the above error while accessing any of the cpanel services do note that its done by ‘cphulkd’ – cPanel Brute Force Protection service. This service monitors the failed authentication and locks out the accounts after a predefined number of attempts.

It’s bit irritating if you get locked and if you don’t have access to WHM for white listing your ip. To disable this from the console of your server, use the command below:

# /usr/local/cpanel/bin/cphulk_pam_ctl --disable

To enable it back, I think by now you know what can be done.

More than twenty Wikipedian’s joined together at CIS on Saturday (16th Jan 2010) evening to celebrate Wikipedia’s 9th birthday. Many were new to Wikipedia and they were keen to learn what Wikipedia is all about and how it can be used in a better way. Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam wikipeidans spoke about the statistics of the respective Indian language wikipedias.Technical difficulties faced by new users, support from government institutions, challenges to promote wikipedia and possible work arounds were discussed during the meetup.

Though I was bit hesitant to be on road, went out to see if I could get a glimpse of the star hero. While driving towards Basavanagudi, I was humming many of his movie songs being played on various FM channels. Recalled my childhood days where in I used to watch “ChitrageethegaLu (Flim Songs)” on every Friday evenings at 7pm on DD-1 Chandana and used to wait for songs from “Nagarahavu“, Bandana, Muttina haara and few other favorites of Vishnu.I have many of his movies on TV long long ago but still those dialogues etc ring in my ears and in last two years have seen some of his new movies in theater (Mathad Mathad Mallige is one which I liked much recently).

I didn’t find it quite possible to get near by and my self and pala have been lucky to get away from the place where in the mob had burnt vehicles etc yesterday evening. People climbing buildings to through the long running queues and authorities pushing the men away to control the crowd and that recalls what had happened when Dr. Rajkumar passed away and everything came to stand still. Please people stay put from such activities atleast while we pay our last tributes to our own stars. This is not the way to end an year and not the way to say good bye to your hero.

He took the poems of our greatest poets to common people. Santa Shishunala Sharif’s composition is one of his classical works. Its unimaginable to think that, his work can now only be listened to/seen on tapes and videos and there won’t be any more energetic performances by this legend on stage.

* Karnataka government launched a “Wikipedia” like project called “Kanaja (Kanaja.in)” at the cost of 2 crore rupees of tax money collect from public.

* First of all Kanaja.in does not resemble a wiki.

* Kanaja.in is a plain HTML static pages archive as of now.

* Many links are not yet up even when it has been grandly launched by Cheif Minister of Karnataka

* There is no need for developing a new software for building such project for public interest.Mediawiki, a Free and Open Source software is already powering Worlds largest wiki project http://www.wikipedia.org. Wikipedia even contains a language wiki for Kannada. On top of all this, its time tested. So, why reinvent the wheel?

* Hosted on a Windows server (you can find it easily if you click on broken links on the website). Do we really need to pay for licensing softwares when there is an OpenSource solution available? Why not use Gnu/Linux server which is secure, stable, scalable than windows server.

I really wonder if there is any tech savvy member in Karnataka Government who can question this project “after” collecting all relevant technical aspects involved in this project. Is there any one out there on net who knows whats going on with Kanaja?

This device lets me get hooked on to my phone via bluetooth. You can sync the phone book to quickly start making calls. It comes with two microphones, a hear phone for privacy (if required ), FM channel to use car audio system, one touch dial and receive calls, gives an option to record and play the call etc. Call quality and clarity is good. Motorola phones seem to be having problems with phone book sync but Nokia just works. Rear view mirror is an attachment on top of your existing one. If you’re running RHEL5, CentOS, Scientific Linux, RHEL4+yum, SLES+yum, you can easily install DELL OpenManage System Administration Tool (OMSA) from DELL Official yum repository.  Read this link for more information Dell Hardware Repo latest.

Set up this repository:

Install OpenManage Server Administrator

Once the installation is over, OpenManage services  can be start using following command.

NOTE: OMSA will not install on unsupported systems. If you receive a message at install that the system is not supported, it is likely that your system is not supported, and the install will fail. This is most common on SC-class systems, as OMSA is completely unsupported on these systems.

Firewall Rule:

To enable port 1311 you can add the following rules to /etc/sysconfig/iptables on Redhat based systems.

-A RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -m state --state NEW -m tcp -p tcp --dport 1311 -j ACCEPT

You might have installed PostgreSQL freshly. Reading through its configuration documentation might through some light on resolving this issue. First check and confirm that PostgreSQL is up and running through startup scripts found in /etc/init.d. Once this is done, you will be able to find the configuration files of PostgreSQL in place. You might want to make some changes to postgresql.conf file to customize the configuration.

Now its time to ensure that users can access the database via TCP/IP on any given machine. The pg_hba.conf file controls this activity.  I wanted to allow connection from local system to my PostgreSQL, hence my pg_hba.conf file configuration looks as follows.  (do not add the last line if your system does not support IPv6):

# TYPE DATABASE USER IP-ADDRESS IP-MASK METHOD
local all all trust
host all all 127.0.0.1 255.255.255.255 trust
host all all ::1 ffff:ffff:ffff:ffff:ffff:ffff:ffff:ffff trust

Make sure that no other lines are uncommented in this file.

Stop and restart PostgreSQL after making these changes and then try connecting with success.

1. Boot to the 9.10 Karmic LiveCD Desktop.
2. Open a terminal - Applications, Accessories, Terminal.
3. Determine your normal system partition – (the switch is a lowercase “L”) sudo fdisk -l
   • If you aren’t sure, run df -Th. Look for the correct disk size and ext3 or ext4 format.
4. Mount your normal system partition:
   • Substitute the correct partition: sda1, sdb5, etc.
   • GRUB 2 counts the first drive as “0″, but the first partition as “1″

   sudo mount /dev/sdXX /mnt

5. Only if you have a separate boot partition:
   • sdYY is the /boot partition designation (examply sdb3)
   • sudo mount /dev/sdYY /mnt/boot
6. Mount devices: sudo mount --bind /dev/ /mnt/dev
7. Chroot into your normal system device: sudo chroot /mnt
8. Reinstall GRUB 2:
   • Substitute the correct device – sda, sdb, etc. Do not specify a partition number.

   sudo grub-install /dev/sdX

9. Verify the install (use the correct device, for example sda. Do not specify a partition): sudo grub-install –recheck /dev/sdX
10. Exit chroot: CTRL-D on keyboard
11. Unmount devices: sudo umount /mnt/dev
    • If you mounted a separate /boot partition: sudo umount /mnt/boot
12. Unmount last device: sudo umount /mnt
13. Reboot. reboot

The Suexec command on your system is configured to only run scripts under /var/www, but the Virtualmin base directory is /home. CGI and PHP scripts run as domain owners will not be executed.

To resolve this you will have to recompile apache with /home as a base directory for mod_suexec module. Or, mount /var/www as mount if you want to keep the configuration unchanged.

An alternate solution is to disable “Automatic SuExec directive” under VirtualMin’s System Settings -> Server Template.

This should resolve the issue.

Fix: InnoDB engine works with 3 files in mysql data folder. ib_logfile0 and ib_logfile1 for logs and for data storage it uses ibdata1.

To resolve the above issue we removed the log files and restarted the MySQL to get going quickly with our mediawiki installation. Hope this saves few hours for others facing the same problem.

You can download the webmin package for different OS’s from the official website webmin.com.

Once you have the .deb package for Ubuntu/Debian, you will be prompted to install some dependencies. So first get the dependencies installed.  Here are some dependencies which I needed on my laptop. (This may vary from machine to machine.. Nothing to worry rest of the packages can also be installed very easily with the intelligent installer aptitude)

$sudo aptitude  install libnet-ssleay-perl libauthen-pam-perl libio-pty-perl libmd5-perl

Now, go ahead and install the webmin .deb file which you had downloaded earlier to finish installation.

$sudo dpkg -i webmin_1.x_all.deb

Now, you’re all set to drive your system the way you want it through a simple web interface. Access webmin via your browser by typing the following URL

https://127.0.0.1:10000

(PS: Its not http://)

If you’re prompted for a security certificate accept it to get the webmin interface. Now you will be prompted for Username and Password. Enter your system’s user name and password to start with.

It started working since I upgraded 9.04 to Karmic alpha release which came with 2.6.3x kernel.  Good isn’t it?

Oh yes, Its easy to configure Reliance Broadband+ on Ubuntu 9.10 or Karmic Koala. No more wvdial configuration required. Find the Mobile Broadband devices getting detected in NetworkManager. Add username and passwords to get going live with 3G networks.

To make changes to the hostname, first edit this file as follows:

#sudo gedit /etc/hostname

Once you’re done editing the hostname, save the file  and run the following command to set the hostname.

#sudo /etc/init.d/hostname.sh start

Now, check and confirm your hostname.

#lspci | grep Ethernet

Follow these steps to get it working:

1. First download this file: AR81Family-linux-v1.0.0.10.tar.gz from here: http://partner.atheros.com/Drivers.aspx

2. Yes, you need to put that onto your Ubuntu box via windows drive or via a USB drive.

3. Open up a terminal and unpack the archive like this:

tar zxvf AR81Family-linux-v1.0.0.10.tar.gz
(ignore any errors)

4. Change into the src directory:

cd src/

5. Make sure you have all the required tools (Not needed if your’e on Ubuntu 9.04):

sudo apt-get install linux-headers-generic build-essential make

6. Run the make command to build the network card driver:

sudo make install

7. The driver file will be placed in the correct /lib/modules location

8. Install the driver:

sudo modprobe atl1e

9. Check if it works, you should see a new eth1 or something in the output from:

ifconfig -a

10. Check if you can get an ip address:

sudo dhclient eth1

11. Add that module to the /etc/modules file so it will load on boot

sudo echo atl1e >> /etc/modules

12. Reboot and you should be set.

In these circumstances, users may experience an inability to restart Bind after a shutdown.?cPanel has produced and distributed an autofixer for this condition. This repair will run automatically on all systems with updates enabled. However, cPanel checks only occur at specific times and depending upon update schedules, users experiencing issues restarting Bind may benefit from manually executing the code to disable strict zone checking. You may safely execute the autofixer at your discretion by running the following command:

He explained how Information and Communication Technologies could be used in rural areas to share knowledge through mobile phones etc. How a community can help each other quickly using simple technologies by exchanging opinions, experiences, good practices and resources. He also explained how knowledge created through ICTs effectively shared and used worldwide through portals such as e-agriculture.org.

HTTP Error 401.1 – Unauthorized: Access is denied due to invalid credentials.
Internet Information Services (IIS)

You get this error while your domains anonymous username and passwords are out of sync with IIS. This can be fixed by running a Plesk tool (You will find it only if your server is managed via Plesk Panel) as follows:

C:\Program Files\SWsoft\Plesk\admin\bin\websrvmng.exe —update-anon-password —domain-name=

Please replace with your domain name. The above command syncs IIS.

What if it turns out to be a server wide issue?

Right. Check out the following command to see how you can sync all the website’s anonymous users passwords with IIS.

C:\Program Files\SWsoft\Plesk\admin\bin\websrvmng.exe —update-anon-passwords-all

Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) is out with its first Indian Earth Observation Visualization tool at – http://bhuvan.nrsc.gov.in/ . So far we all used to depend on google maps and google earth applications to get maps and 3D visualization. Reports say that more than 60000 people registered as soon as this project was launched for its beta testing. But many of us were totally discouraged to usethe application as it was vendor locked by forcing Internet community to stick to Internet explorer, DirectX and other proprietary applications. Internet users such as myself have been using firefox, opera and other browsers where in we can’t see whats really Bhuvan has got for us. Looks like it is totally an ignorance of who ever is responsible to deliver such application. An OS independent application is what is needed when entire web is moving towards web3.0 for better user experience and advancements. A small survey of web users would have been resulted in a good design and solution. Hope ISRO learns this very fast during Bhuvan’s beta testing and come out with the right solution that is needed soon.

WordPress 2.8.4: Security Release

Yesterday a vulnerability was discovered: a specially crafted URL could be requested that would allow an attacker to bypass a security check to verify a user requested a password reset. As a result, the first account without a key in the database (usually the admin account) would have its password reset and a new password would be emailed to the account owner. This doesn’t allow remote access, but it is very annoying.

We fixed this problem last night and have been testing the fixes and looking for other problems since then. Version 2.8.4 which fixes all known problems is now available for download and is highly recommended for all users of WordPress.

This release also fixed the theme issue which I had with my admin interface. Entire wp-admin section used to display in white color and I was also unable to use the options ajax based option menus etc.

After digging a while in forums etc, found that its due to incorrect wine binary specified in

~/.wine/wine-doors/preferences.xml

Fix:-

To resolve this issue, find the wine binary location using following command.

$ which wine
/usr/local/bin/wine

Copy this location to preferences.xml as follows.

<winebinary>/usr/local/bin/wine</winebinary>

Now run wine-doors to see it working fine.

Here is a quick how to for getting Guest Add-ons installed on your OpenSolaris.

1) Once you start the guest OpenSolaris, login and from the Devices menu of Virtualbox guest menu select “Install Guest Additions”. This mounts the VirtualBox Guest Add-ons iso into your Guest.

2) Now its time to add the OpenSolaris guest addon package from terminal, Open the terminal, traverse to cdrom mount point under /media.

3) Find VBoxSolarisAdditions.pkg.

4) To install VBoxSolarisAdditions.pkg, run the following command as root (su – can be used to login as root in console)

#pkgadd -d VBoxSolarisAdditions.pkg

When prompted, select all packages to be installed. Thats it.

Once the installation is over, just restart to see the difference.

I couldn’t do much other than just tweeting about SysAdmin day early this morning. So here is this post. Today I thought of giving it an another try and succeeded to fix the issue.. Here is what I have done with the Mobile Broadband connection.

1) Right click on NetworkManager and select “Edit connections” to get following dialouge box. Once you’re there click on “Mobile Broadband” tab

2)If you’ve already configured the connection, Choose the connection name, click on Edit. Otherwise, setup a new connection (When ever you connect your mobile devices automatically Ubuntu detects such devices and prepares itself to create a connection).

3) Now, time to apply the trick.. In PPP settings tab, disable “Use Point-Point Encryption (MPPE)” as follows.

4) Click on apply

5) Now close the windows, click on Network button on the screen, ensure that you’r mobile device is connected, select the Mobile broadband connection to get connected.

Neat isn’t it?

No more wvdial and terminal on desktop while browsing net.I have tried this with Reliance Broadband+. Same thing should work with other mobile devices also. Give it a try.

Seagate 1TB Drive for all my backup needs.

It’s now in my possession @ 5150 INR + Tax = 5400 Rs with 5 years Warranty.

Currently I have got NTFS on this. Playing around with Gparted etc to squeeze the drive to make an ext3/4 partition.

I was searching for various ways to integrate them all for a while now. Started tweeting via jabber using a identi.ca and that was fun. Still, there are too many challenges.. I didn’t wanted to tweet few things via identi.ca, wanted to connect to Facebook and lot more. Is there any way I can integrate them all in Pidgin? Google said yes, there are many ways… I kept on searching to find a better option and each time I found a plugin or two. My search ended here.  This post on “nousessence” pointed me to a plug-in which I had tried some time back but haven’t tried it properly. Plugin named microblog-purple or mbpurple has got an easy way to integrate all microbloging websites on to your Pidgin.

To install this plug-in on Ubuntu just add couple of lines to apt source list as show below:

#sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

Add the following lines to gedit window

#Pidgin-Microblog
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/sugree/ubuntu jaunty main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/sugree/ubuntu jaunty main

And install the plug-in as follows

#sudo aptitude install pidgin-microblog

Start your pidgin, go to Accounts menu, Manage accounts and add your identi.ca, twitter, facebook and many  other microbloging accounts and you’re done.. You won’t require any other tool after this. This also adds and another plugin to Pidgin called Twitgin to help you with couple of extra features. Check this out and enjoy…

This issue can be fixed by removing the package libvisual-0.4-plugins. Songbird started singing like a rock star.

So, if you have got a similar issue don’t worry, run the program from console. Identify the issue.. google around and find the solution.. Can’t really paste the URL’s from which I got an hint about the fix (didn’t store it while creating a draft of this post). But its clear in the error log So.. Thanks to those who have already blogged about this issue.

Configuring that on my Ubuntu Jaunty was so easy just like my earlier dial-up connections via wvdial.

To configure the new modem on Gnu/Linux run the following command in Terminal (You need to have wvdial package installed)

#wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf

Your /etc/wvdial.conf will have the following entries.

# cat /etc/wvdial.conf

[Dialer Defaults]
Init2 = ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0
Modem Type = Analog Modem
; Phone =
ISDN = 0
; Username =
Init1 = ATZ
; Password =
Modem = /dev/ttyUSB0
Baud = 460800

Change the target phone no. to #777 and Username and password need to be set to the Reliance 10 digit number.

And you require an another magical line added to this file. i.e.

Stupid Mode = 1

Once this is done run the following command to get connected.

# wvdial

To terminate the connection you can press CTRL+C.

Let me know if you face any problem while working with it.

Your kernel is compiled with iptables statically instead of as a module, to resolve this you will need to change a small configuration in /etc/apf/conf.apf

Once this is done, restart apf to see the error vanishing.

If you’re getting the following error on a OpenVZ VPS server:

ACCEPT  udp opt — in !lo out *  0.0.0.0/0  -> 0.0.0.0/0  state NEW udp dpt:953

Contact the DC to make a small change in OpenVZ iptables configuration in /etc/vz/vz.conf as follows:

IPTABLES=”ipt_REJECT ipt_tos ipt_TOS ipt_LOG ip_conntrack ipt_limit ipt_multiport iptable_filter iptable_mangle ipt_TCPMSS ipt_tcpmss ipt_ttl ipt_length ipt_state iptable_nat ip_nat_ftp”

Once this line is added, they will restart your vps or all vps nodes on the hardware node will be restarted to make iptables modules available.

This should resolve the issue.

The Icon is dead. Its Strange how one feels the loss of someone who is a stranger; but whose works have been a great influence in our formative years. In the Early eighties, The rhythm of Jackson was the moving force in Music. Millions have grew up hearing his music including me. I personally struggled to understand what he was trying to sing but the sheer power of his performance would sweep my feet away. Undoubtedly he was one of the pioneers of Modern day music and more importantly a spectacular dancer. His Music videos were path breaking and spell binding to say the least. His ”Black or White” or the ”thriller” videos remain a benchmark even today.But the ironic thing is that even though his songs reflect deep pain and concern for Humanity; his personal life was one swell experiment with pain. Even though he was Ridden by controversies and drug abuse, he continued to pour out his life into his music. Songs like ”Man in the Mirror” reflect his deep love for the Human race and the need to change. It was almost like the God and the devil were residing within him. He was torn apart as an individual, but his focus always lay on his work. His comeback tour will never happen and fittingly so. I am sure he would have been a patch of his old self and thats the reason life snuffed him out. Such is the stuff of genius. They don’t come often, but when they do, they leave a mark which is indelible.

Michael Jackson will always remain alive through his Pulsating Music, Meaningful Lyrics and his persona that he carried throughout his life. God Bless!!!

I downloaded Chrome for Linux today and just trying out all possible things.. It still doesn’t support unicode properly. Thats the main concern.

I have tried many music players but nothing like Song Bird… Adding, removing multiple files to library is so damn easy and fast. The latest version of SongBird even optimized this function.

SongBird 1.2 performance enhancements are as follows:

• Faster search
• Deleting many tracks at once is faster
• Selecting a large amount of tracks from the library is no longer slow
• Reduced the amount of threads required to be running at all times by 50%
• Fewer Crashes: We’ve worked hard to identify and fix some of the most common crashes in Songbird.

Read Georges Auberger’s blog post on SongBird 1.2 to learn more about new features such as automatic Library file organization, two way sync with iTunes, Last.fm radio integration and a cool 10-band equilizer integration.

Yahoo Protocol 16 support, including new HTTPS login method; this should fix a number of login problems that have recently cropped up.

Pidgin released a new update to resolve this issue. Pidgin 2.5.7 is out. You can install it as given below.

1) Import the public key for Launchpad PPA for Pidgin Developers:

$ sudo apt-key adv --recv-keys --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com 67265eb522bdd6b1c69e66ed7fb8bee0a1f196a8

2) Add the following lines to /etc/apt/sources.list

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/pidgin-developers/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main

3) Now, Run apt-get update and apt-get upgrade / apt-get install pidgin .

The PPA contains new pidgin releases for other versions of ubuntu ( dapper gutsy, hardy ,intrepid and karmic)

Once this is done, do restart your pidgin and find the yahoo authentication happening fine just like earlier.

To install it on my ubuntu box I used aptitude as follows

#sudo aptitude install sshfs

Once its done, all I need to do is to provide the remote hostname, directory to be mounted and the destination directory as the mount point. Check the syntax below.

#sshfs <username>@servername/ip:/home/<username> <destination>

This will prompt you for the SSH password. Once you’re authenticated, you will be able to access the files easily just like a normal folder. Its so convenient over FTP. Try it out today.

From man page: SSHFS (Secure  Shell FileSystem) is a file system for Linux (and other operating systems with a FUSE implementation, such as Mac OS X or FreeBSD) capable of operating on files on a remote computer using just a secure shell login on the remote computer. On the local computer where  the  SSHFS is  mounted,  the  implementation makes use of the FUSE (Filesystem in Userspace) kernel module. The practical effect of this is that the end user can seamlessly interact with remote files being securely served over SSH just as if they were local files on his/her computer. On the remote  computer the SFTP subsystem of SSH is used.

Yesterday night I was discussing with few of my colleagues about the recent vulnerability report logged on the net and the fixes released to patch it. Sadly I get to read this news in  papers on returning home. His innovative products have made a very good name in industry in a very short span of time. A very hardworking talent, free and open source enthusiast and a guitarist. He always thrived provide a best and an optimized web hosting tool to hosting industry. Its a great loss to all of us.

I recall interacting with this genius engineer prior to his product  launch and commenting on few initial glitches that I had noticed here at Instacarma. He has been such a great help during our further interactions on LxLabs forum etc. Instacarma family offers its deep condolences to his family and friends.

He puts a question mark in-front of us and LxAdmin’s future is unknown. There are more questions to be answered while his soul rests in peace.

Yesterday attended an event called “Startup City” Organized by Silicon India at Nimhans convention hall, Bangalore.

It was a good chance to hear about top notch companies like Rediff, Naukri and Tejas Network directly from their founders. Naukri.com (Sanjay Bikchandhani), Rediff.com (Ajit Balakrishnan) and Tejas Networks (Sanjay Nayak) shared their experience with the startup city. Along with it I attended a range of inspirational and informative seminars covering everything from Cloud Computing to Monetizing Applications from leaders of Amazon.com, Sun Microsystems and Forum Nokia.

Stalls arranged at the venue displayed various products and services offered by many startups and it was good learning experince talking to many of them. Checked out Amazon’s “Kindle” and Nokia’s upcoming touch screen handset N97 too. I also got a chance to check out OpenMoko phone.

Once the package is installed, reopen your browser and start browsing Kannada websites. If you want to add any other Kannada fonts, do copy them to /usr/share/fonts folder or to .fonts folder inside your user directory and run fc-cache -fv to get it installed successfully. Just now I tested my brothers Reliance Netconnect Broadband+ Huawei EC168 c card on my Ubuntu Jaunty Jackalope (Ubuntu 9.04). You can see the connection speed test results below.

Reliance datacard costs 3500Rs and they have set of tariff’s to choose from depending on your usage. I also heard that Tata Indicom has got a similar device with Unlimited usage package.

I couldn’t believe myself when this device gave such a good connectivity at comparably similar cost as of my existing ADSL connection. At the moment I’m really fedup with my BSNL connection due to its worst customer service and unresolved DNS issues etc.

On the way to Siddara Betta near Madhugiri Talku, Me and my friends found this magnificent Mango tree. How one could ever find a ripe mango on  this? They were all GREEN in color as you could see in the pic.

Mean while Mr. Chamraj found some kids eating Mangoes and even managed to get some mangoes plucked from the tree.. Believe or not I did eat one of those ripe mangoes which they gave us. It was yummy.

No No. I didn’t eat it that way. It was found as is directly on the tree.

How is it possible for a bird to identify ripe mangoes on such a big tree? (If you don’t know Parrot can easily find out ripe mangoes)

Haven’t you tasted mangoes in this season? Go get one right away or you will be missing something.

Error: Download failed.: Connection time-out

There are two reasons for this error to bail-out:

First one is a DNS issue. Check the resolver of your server and ensure that the first dns server listed there is responding quite fast. If your ping command takes too long to answer, then rotate the nameservers.

Second one could be php/apache script time out limit set on the server. This can be modified by editing configuration files.

Look at the first reason, in this case any application that tries to download a file from net will take too long to respond back if there is a DNS issue. Wordpress can wait for some time to get the files and then it will time-out. If you’re aware of the DNS issue you can edit configuration file to get the issue fixed. Otherwise you can tell wordpress to wait for some more time.  Let us see how that could be done.

I edited following line in wp-admin/includes/file.php

$response = wp_remote_get($url, array('timeout' => 60));

Default time-out was set to 30 earlier. It has been set to 60 now. This will make my wordpress wait for 30 more seconds to get the response.

“VBoxManage convertfromraw ubuntu-netbook-remix-i386.img ubuntu-netbook-remix-i386-live.vdi”

2. Run the command to create a new empty VDI image where to install the image with 8GB space:
“VBoxManage createhd -filename ubuntu-netbook-remix-i386.vdi -size 8000”
Note: you can use -register option at the end of this command or register this VDI file from the VirtualBox later.

3. Create a new VM using the ubuntu-netbook-remix-i386-live.vdi (use the existing vdi option)

4. Attach the ubuntu-netbook-remix-i386.vdi as a Primary Slave

5. Start the VM (boot)

6. Install

Note: Install will automatically install into the Primary Slave drive.

7. Shutdown the VM

8. Remove the ubuntu-netbook-remix-i386-live.vdi from the VM setting, and make the ubuntu-netbook-remix-i386.vdi as the Primary Master.

9. Restart the VM

10. Enjoy!

UNetbootin allows you to create bootable Live USB drives for a variety of Linux distributions from Windows or Linux, without requiring you to burn a CD. You can either let it download one of the many distributions supported out-of-the-box for you, or supply your own Linux .iso file if you’ve already downloaded one or your preferred distribution isn’t on the list.

It’s quite easy to use (Just tell the location of .iso and select the usb device to be used and click on “ok”), supports huge number of OS’s to be written on to USB. It’s fast in writing ISO to USB. Once I finished using this utility to create a Ubuntu USB device, I just had to get my system rebooted with USB. Try it out today.

Now it will be too easy to make people use Gnu/Linux without making them worry about existing Operating Systems on their hardisks.

135B. Grant of paid holiday to employees on the day of poll.—

1. Every person employed in any business, trade, industrial undertaking or any other establishment and entitled to vote at an election to the House of the People or the Legislative Assembly of a State shall, on the day of poll, be granted a holiday.
2. No deduction or abatement of the wages of any such person shall be made on account of a holiday having been granted in accordance with sub-section (1) and if such person is employed on the basis that he would not ordinarily receive wages for such a day, he shall nonetheless be paid for such day the wages he would have drawn had not a holiday been granted to him on that day.
3. If an employer contravenes the provisions of sub-section (1) or sub-section (2), then such employer shall be punishable with fine which may extend to five hundred rupees.
4. This section shall not apply to any elector whose absence may cause danger or substantial loss in respect of the employment in which he is engaged.

In addition to the above, some of the states, publish a notification, declaring the election day as holiday, under the provisions of the Industrial Establishment (National & Festival Holidays) Act. Just to give you an example,Section 3-A to the Karnataka Industrial Establishment (National & Festival Holidays) Act, 1963 it is mandatory to declare paid holiday on the day of polling.

There were few more people walking up to us and they asked me if I could drop them off to the hospital.

The road there is narrow and few vehicles stopped behind my car almost immediately. A small crowd had gathered. On the front, I could spot a “Hoysala” police van when I was trying to find out more from these people. One police man got down and asked me to stop the Car. I said, “Boss, wait! I have halted the Car because they asked me for some help!”. I believe they just wasted more precious, irreversible moments there.

At last, everyone understood the situation. They let me, the kid’s Dad move away from that place to a nearest hospital. One more guy accompanied us and he was giving me directions to the hospital. I was totally new to that place and haven’t had a chance to explore much other than the main road that I usually take.

We reached the hospital, but found that the hospital was closed. But the kid was found to have passed away.
I asked them whether they would like to take the kid to some other hospital. But they just said “no, he is dead now. Please drop us back home”. I did that and returned home.

The man who was holding the kid was drunk, as far as I could make out from their conversations – the guy had hit the kid once he reached home today and caused all this mess!

I can’t help but wonder why they drink as much to make lives of others a misery. I could see that the person was from a middle class family and he must be earning enough to take care of his family. But the end of the day habit now has taken the life of his son.

I felt sorry for the kid and that I couldn’t help more than that to save his life. The day ended with this very sad event. I’m still lost for words.

Using IE through wine (Windows Emulator), but that didn’t quite get along with Ubuntu. Later Wine-Doors made it bit easy to work with wine and install few windows applications without pain.

Still, IE had not worked. Didn’t check why it work. Yesterday I was desperately in need of IE but I could not boot into Windows. So, recalled IEs4Linux. Installed it real quick on my Ubuntu and started using it in minutes.IE 5,5.x,6, as well as 7 (beta). Except 7 all others work well.

Here is how you get it installed:

Problem that needs to be fixed:

I’m unable to browse utf-8 content properly on these IE versions. Need to check how to install fonts that are required.

GnuPG: “decryption failed: secret key not available”

It is resulted because I just imported only the public keys from backup. Private keys are very much essential in-case you want GPG keys to work for encrypting and decrypting messages.

To ensure private keys are also copied into your existing account, use –allow-secret-key-import option along with –import as shown below.

gpg –allow-secret-key-import –import <keyring>

Once this is done, you will be able to smoothly encrypt and decrypt the messages just like earlier. While taking backups of GnuPG keys etc, you must keep this point in mind.

Twitter client Gwibber is also experiencing issues. As per one of the twitter update I found that, there has been slight change in twitter API that might have caused the issue. Check out “Bug in Gwibber” reported on launchpad. So, I have stopped using gwibber for a while now.

Between, I’m quite happy with the performance of the new version of tweetdeck twitter client. It’s fast, lets me group the twitter posts based on my friends list etc.It’s easy to install Adobe Air, required for installing tweetdeck on Ubuntu.

Three variants of Nano has been released. It’s base price starts at Rs 100,000 (around $1980). Tata is also planning  to launch its European variant byb 2011. Next target will be United states.

At the current economic situation, low-cost cards are very attractive for consumers, though the original intention had been totally different. We are yet to wait and see the effects and side-effects of this new invention.

BOSTON, Massachusetts, USA — Thursday, March 19, 2009 — The Free Software Foundation (FSF) and FLOSS Manuals today announced a community project to collaboratively produce a new free software textbook for GNU/Linux users, with an text sprint to write the first title in the series, “Introduction to the Command Line.”

At the March 21st-22nd GNU/Linux conference LibrePlanet (http://fsf.org/conference), the FSF and FLOSS Manuals will be providing
the space and technology to collaboratively write and edit a new textbook for free software users entitled, “Introduction to the Command Line.” FLOSS Manuals’ Adam Hyde said, “This is an exciting opportunity to work with the FSF and help build a sustainable model for the production of more textbooks for free software users. I encourage volunteers to start contributing text and ideas immediately. This new book will be available online for free download immediately after LibrePlanet finishes on Monday, March 23, and two hundred copies will be available for sale in book form from the FSF web site.”

FSF executive director Peter Brown said, “By purchasing a copy of this new book, supporters can help kickstart the production cycle of
additional freely licensed, community-written texts for free software.We also hope that our collaboration with FLOSS Manuals will encourage more volunteer authors to participate in the production free software documentation”.

All material will be available under both the GNU General Public License and the GNU Free Documentation License, and all editorial contributions to the book will be recognized in print.

ABAA has been involved in popularizing Astronomy in many ways for past 33 years. In ABAA we help people in making their own telescopes, have regular talks and discussions on various topics in Astronomy. ABAA conducts sky shows to public every first Sunday of the month, members of ABAA are taken to dark skies out of city light for deep sky observations. During events like Eclipse, Transit, Occultations and comets ABAA organizes public viewing through our telescopes.

It’s very common for all of us to see such pledges on the agenda of political parties as polls are around. But it would be great if they can materialize the pledges.

FOSS is software which is liberally licensed to grant the right of users to study, change, and improve its design through the availability of its source code. If you use phpinfo() in a test php file, you can see that /home/user/__processed_stats/domainame.com.phplog file is quoted as the php error_log file. If you;re using suphp, ensure that this file is owned by the account user. If you use mod_php you might have to change this to apache.apache or permissions should be given for others to write into this file.

I wanted to change the log_error value for all accounts on the server. I accomplished the task by writing the following one liner.

for i in `find /home/httpd -name php.ini`; do replace “log_errors = off” “log_errors = on” — $i; done

Now, while we work on some servers to take backup of some drives we use dd command to take disk image. This should be done after mounting the file system as read-only. Otherwise you might end up getting a corrupted image of the disk. You can remount the entire file system of Linux using following command.

#mount -o remount ro /

Now you’re all set to take the image of this system. As the file system has been mounted as read-only, new files won’t get created and you’re in a safer zone to continue further with this task.

Following command is the syntax for taking the backup of a disk called /dev/sda over ssh using dd. "if" takes the disk as argument from which data needs to be read. Target is the server name or ip of the server to which image needs to be written. In the following command backup.img is being written into /root folder of a remote system.

#dd if=/dev/sda | ssh root@target "(cat >/root/backup.img)"

This will be very handy for administrators who end up facing some disk issues on servers which they manage and disks etc fail to work. Before proceeding with disaster recovery process, they might have to take the backup existing server without taking it down. If you face the similar situation, don’t forget to use dd.

Caution: *(Be careful with options etc with dd, you might end-up writing the data to wrong disk or location)

First step to resolve RPM related issues is to rebuild the rpm database. This can be done by removing the __db files from /var/lib/rpm folder and then running the following command in console as root.

#rpm --rebuilddb

At times, this might not work and you might require some more verbose information. You can get it by adding -vv switch to above command as follows:

#rpm -vv --rebuilddb

Here is an example, I was not able to understand which package wass giving the following error.

#rpm --rebuilddb
error: rpmdbNextIterator: skipping h#909189228 blob size(11): BAD, 8 + 16 * il(1882857574) + dl(1769480289)

To identify the package, I had to run the same command in verbose mode to understand which package was resulting this error.

Following is the extract from the output which displayed the corrupted package.

After looking at this, I thought of removing the above package to get it reinstalled. I did a query on the same package via rpm command

#rpm -qa  pure-ftpd

And found that the package has been installed humpty number of times. Again I ended up with an another issue here because I was unable to remove this package easily like any other rpm package.

To remove all the occurrences of the package from the RPM database, you can use the --allmatches switch as follows.

#rpm -e --allmatches --nodeps pure-ftpd

This command did work and successfully removed the package. Once this was taken care, packages started working fine. I was able to install other packages successfully.

#sudo aptitude install libesd-alsa0 esound

Now have fun..

I heard its a flop movie from few of my friends. Though, I wanted to watch this movie due to couple of songs which I watched on TV. They were indeed pictured pretty well. First half of the movie was totally dull and oscitant. They were just trying to tell how few NRI’s want to get back to their cities here in India and what they will have to face etc.. Once they land here, they have tried to show how India (In movie Delhi 6) and it’s people behave. Nothing special that we could see here. I kept watching the movie as it gained some momentum due to Black Monkey (Looks like they have nothing else other than this monkey from t he beginning of the movie). Hindu Muslim controversy, how Abhishek tries to be Monkey to save his heroin from a freak and why people end up beating him to death, how he gets to talk to his grand pa living in heaven at last how he is survives, all these puts an ends to the story. Ramayana has been used to links the families living in Delhi 6, Monkey and others. Few dialogues brings in smiles other wise, entire movie is dry… Here is one of the songs which I liked very much in this movie.

I’m bit sad now as I need more rest and can’t imagine working again for long hours from tomorrow morning. Long list of to-do’s and scheduled work huh!

Right, there must be some tool called system-cleaner and I just found exactly the same. CleanupCruft or Computer Janitor earlier known as System Cleaner.  It’s now available on Ubuntu 9.04 Alpha5 (Jaunty Jackalope) under System -> Admnistration menu.

Its quite simple, easy to use and a handy tool. Try it today…

If you have already installed Mplayer and still have issues playing wma files, then download the codes from Mplayer website and copy them to /usr/lib/win32 and then start Mplayer.

To resolve this, check the output of iptables -L if that gives any output, save it using following command and then restart iptables as shown below.

Saving iptables rules:

[root@server sysconfig]#iptables-save > /etc/sysconfig/iptables

Restarting iptables service:
[root@server sysconfig]# /etc/init.d/iptables restart
Flushing firewall rules: [ OK ]
Setting chains to policy ACCEPT: filter [ OK ]
Applying iptables firewall rules: [ OK ]

You can see that the issue has been sorted out. It removed the unsupported rules from iptables list.

While 9.04 brings in lots of new goodies to Ubuntu lovers, 9.10 dreams about making it beautiful. I even found a cool comic asking why don’t we move to Karmic Koala directly .  Server edition of Ubuntu 9.10 talks about futurology of cloud computing. More interesting developments. I’m already happy about many things in Ubuntu 9.04 and egarly waiting for Cool Karmic Koala.

At last I’m successfully connected to net via my Motorola Motoming A1200 using Airtel GPRS connection  on Ubuntu (I’m using Ubuntu Jaunty Jackalope ie 9.04 Alpha).

Here is a quick run through for setting up GPRS connection on Ubuntu:

First configure pppd default ip address to which you want the GPRS connection to be binded. This can be done by editing /etc/ppp/options file. Add the following line to it via vi or other file editing tool.

/etc/ppp/options:

:192.168.0.254

Now, make the required changes to /etc/wvdial.conf as mentioned below.

PS: You can get this file generated by connecting the phone via usb and then running sudo wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf on console. Ensure that USB mode is set to “Modem”

Init1 = ATZ
Init2 = AT&FE0V1&C1S0=0
Init3 = AT+CGDCONT=1,”IP”,”airtelgprs.com”

Here are few fixes which you can use to get the issue resolved.

• Making sure /proc/sys/fs/file-max was big enough
• Adding “fs.file-max = 2048″ to /etc/sysctl.conf
• Adding “* – nofile 2048″ to /etc/security/limits.conf
• Adding “session required pam_limits.so” to /etc/pam.d/login and /etc/pam.d/sshd
• Changing the limit using “ulimit -n 65536″ as root
• Rebooting the machine several times

If you want this issue to be resolved across the reboots, 3rd option is the best solution

• Adding “* – nofile 2048″ to /etc/security/limits.conf

To quickly add the Medibuntu repository in to your Jaunty Jakalope, go to System > Administration > Software Sources, click on Third party Software, and then add the following line.

deb http://packages.medibuntu.org/ jaunty free non-free

This line can also be appended manually to /etc/apt/sources file as follows.

# sudo echo "deb http://packages.medibuntu.org/ jaunty free non-free"  >> /etc/apt/sources.list

You will be prompted for Medibuntu key. You can download it from Medibuntu.org and install it via System > Administration > Synaptic Manager or run the following command in console.

# sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install medibuntu-keyring && sudo apt-get update

Now you’re all set to grab the packages provided by Medibuntu repositories easily.

It was very hard to use Google calendar, Evolution or Thunder bird for my To-Do lists which keeps growing outrageously. I even sweep them off the list pretty fast at times. The following screen shot lets you view my new to-do list manager installed as an AWN applet is cute, sweet and smart. Creating categories, tasks is what all you could do. But its fast! So, no more tomboy notes for every days tasks etc. I can even check on progress by marking the percentage complete.

Tech byte! To grab the attention of the class, I did create a local yahoo dns records on a test dns server and pointed that to my system where in I had root access. Every one were shocked to see me logging into yahoo unless they found “techfiz” on screen . It’s always fun to teach Gnu/Linux and it’s more fun to learn.

Hmm, it was not all that yummy like the normal food. I took this because I was not feeling like eating food today and had little trouble digesting oily food too. So, this was one of the best option. Went to a nearest shop called “Namhadri’s” and bought one of this and also few apples and oranges. I always hated tomato’s and never used to have fresh fruits and vegetables regularly. I always had them along with my food during breakfast, lunch or dinner but I had never consumed them raw regularly. I always feel happy to be a veggie and I don’t mind if I don’t get too many options for the food. All I need is something that I like and something which doesn’t upset my tummy.

No offense. You eat what you like veg or non-veg. I have always found my self healthier than those who eat non-veg. Yeah, I’m little thin because I haven’t cared about my body much (I shall take care of it..). I recall few lines here as we talk about health and food.

ie. If a person eats food one time a day, he is Yogi (one who practices yoga and has achieved a high level of spiritual insight). If he consumes food twice a day, he is Bhogi (one who lavishly lives his life on earth). If he eats food for more than twice, he becomes a Rogi (patient or a unhealthy person). So, while you eat ensure you eat how much ever is required for the body to be healthy. Even if you eat one time you can be strong enough like Yogi.

Today due to advancements in technology, we are eating processed food which is not at all healthier. Even the veg salad which I had this afternoon might not be healthy as who know what chemicals they might have used. If we really check the food habits of our ancestors, they never really got to eat Pizzas but they really enjoyed the richness of food and lived happily for years without any illness. They had choices even when they got to eat only vegetarian food. Today if you really checkout the complete Indian menu, you really have a great amount of vegetarian food. For non-veg, I can’t really tell how many but I’m sure there are many. As per my experience Gaas poos is not bad at all and far better than eating non-veg. You always have options in front of you, and at times you might want to check which is good.

I thought of writing this piece of post because I wanted to capture all that comes in to my mind about health and food habits. I really never cared about the health so far but without health I will not be able to enojy what I do in life and I’m aware of that. I should correct myself by working on my food habits (Don’t worry, have no plans to try out non-veg).

Politicians and Engineers involved with such projects around Bangalore, I have a small question here for you all. Where is your CS (Common Sense)? We can protest but how many of us really have got time to fight with people who have got no “CS” while, designing, planning and building and approving such projects almost every single day?

Fight for Roti, Makhan our Kapda or Fight for Nature, security and other things. Do we really have plans for the right and bright future of our generation? Are we looking beyond the mirror to see what’s waiting for us in future?

I made a small change in as mentioned below in /etc/NetworkManager/nm-system-settings.conf,  to get NetworkManager working after upgrade.

# cat /etc/NetworkManager/nm-system-settings.conf

Once you confirm the settings, restart the NetworkManager.

Tech Sampada team distributed a Debian based Gnu/Linux distribution at Gnu/Linux Habba v3 event @ NMAMIT, Nitte near Mangalore on 7th February, 2009. Team has got a long term goals to make this distribution stable Kannada release which enables Kannadiga’s to use their native language (Kannada) during computing, without much hinderence.

At the moment distributed distro contains Live + Installer options on it. Live cd option can be used to test and then install the distribution on computers using installer options. More than 20 people tested, installed and used distribution during Habba. We also helped many students to install Gnu/Linux on VirtualBox as they were found to be bit frantic.

Special Note: Team managed to deploy 26GB Debian repo on a server @ NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte to provide Gnu/Linux resources to students. Special thanks to our Debian guru Ravi (CrazyGene) for all his contribution.

This can happen due to multiple reasons. First one is obviously related to firewall issue. The other one is bit tricky but related to ping binary which is used by Nagios to ping the ip for check-host-alive status.

Nagios executes the system binaries using nagios user configured during the installation. Hence, such user must have enough privileges to execute the binary. In the above scenario, ping must be executable by the user nagios.

To resolve the issue, I added an execute bit on ping binary as follows:

chmod u+s /bin/ping

Restart or wait for Nagios to check the status of the hosts once again. Now I can see that Nagios shows the correct status of the hosts.

To make changes to GRUB default option, we need not tell users to edit the configuration when we have a tool called “grub-choose-default“.

First get it installed using following command on your terminal or by using Synaptic package manager.

sudo aptitude install grub-choose-default

Once this is done, you can execute the following command in terminal or via run prompt (Press Alt+F2 to get it ) to get the GUI tool to edit Grub Default .

sudo grub-choose-default

Once you get this window, select the operating system which you want to boot by default. And you will be done with it.

dmidecode -s system-serial-number

From its man pages:
dmidecode is a tool for dumping a computer’s DMI (some say SMBIOS) table contents in a human-readable format. This table contains a description of the system’s hardware components, as well as other useful pieces of information such as serial numbers and BIOS revision. Thanks to this table, you can retrieve this information without having to probe for the actual hardware. While this is a good point in terms of report speed and safeness, this also makes the presented information possibly unreliable.

The DMI table doesn’t only describe what the system is currently made of, it also can report the possible evolutions (such as the fastest supported CPU or the maximal amount of memory supported).

SMBIOS stands for System Management BIOS, while DMI stands for Desktop Management Interface. Both standards are tightly related and developed by the DMTF (Desktop Management Task Force).

Today thought of recompiling the kernel as Volume Manager didn’t give me much options to fiddle with the settings. Luckily I went through launchpad once again to find Question #57928 where in I was pointed to Use Gnome Alsa Mixer to get this issue resolved. That was right, I was sure that I had no issues reported in kernel which is related to SoundCard. Hence it should be related to settings which are hidden at the moment in volume manager. So, I hit the command gnome-alsamixer to find Mute on all output’s. Remove all the mute options and you should be good enough.

There we go to get back music on box. Now, I can get back to studies….

Numbers! Numbers! Numbers! Srinidhi gave me a bunch of DVD’s few months back which contained a series of “Numbers” movie. Wow! they have done some thing with numbers itself. Good.

I was watching an ad on TV 9, which reminded about the invention of “Zero” by Indian’s without which we wouldn’t have been able to count today.

What numbers mean to me in life? “Many things” I say!.  Numbers have always forced me to raise the bar in life. In case of Platonic, I did take the help of numbers once again to ensure I don’t let it go into thin air as I had taken oath to myself to do  something different.  Following chart gives you the statistics of Platonic (Not completely accurate as it’s based on a statistic software. It varies in others).

Last month Platonic celebrated its 1st year and now its 500th post. With this, I’m all set to raise the bar and set a new target for myself to continue with my blogging journey. As per my plans, I will be blogging more in Kannada on Sampada.net from now onwards to achieve a good number there too. Platonic will continue to give updates on various hacks, techno tips and other updates on versatile topics.

Here are the steps for configuring the card:

To configure wvdial with new modem run the following command in Terminal

#wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf

Your /etc/wvdial.conf will have the following entries.

Change the target phone no. to #777 and Username and password need to be set to the Reliance 10 digit  number.

Once this is done run the following command to get connected.

xserver-xorg-video-nouveau fails due to unavailability of linux-nouveau-modules dependency. Waiting to sort out this issue as early as possible. Otherwise it boots fast. Still I’m on exploring various other updates.

Today cPanel has released a new DNS Only product which is based on the core of cPanel/WHM 11.24.4. This updated version adds support for cPanel’s Service Manager, enhanced service monitoring, brute force protection, as well as many of the other new features and optimizations found in cPanel/WHM 11.24.4.

cPanel strongly recommends upgrading to this new version as soon as possible. Anyone who has a significant number of DNS updates each day will find improved performance and scalability with DNS Only version 11.24.4.

Though i’m not a PC User, I’m exploring this beta to see new up’s and down’s of Windows OS. FYI: Microsoft started its new year with a Critical patch release for SMB remote exploit.

First, access the DSL modem control panel. It’s accessible at http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.0.1 by default with password xxxxx. Once you’re inside the control panel you will get the following page where in you should select NAT option under “Advanced Setup“.

Following can be found at NAT page. We will edit the SUA only option which is selected by default:

Now, its time to enter the port of the server and the local ip of the system on which you’re running the server.

If I’m running web server, I will enter 80 as the port number in Start and End port No along with the system local ip. Once this is done, save and reboot the modem. Once the modem is back online, you can give your static ip to your users at the remote end to connect to your system via http:// over port 80.

If you don’t have a static ip, you can still find your current global ip by visiting the http://whatismyip.com in browser. But this ip will change as and when the DSL modem gets reset. So, you will have to keep updating your users with the global ip all the time.

This setup is useful when you want to help your friends in fixing their operating system, when you’re trying to setup a temporary server to provide a demo. If you’re internet connection is good enough you can even think of running a permanent web server or file server without any issues. Easy isn’t it? Enjoy!

First take the backup of /etc/yum.repos.d, remove those old repo files and add a new file called local.repo with the following lines:

[local]
name=Local CD Repo
baseurl=file:///mnt/cdrom

Here /mnt/cdrom is the location of CD mount. Change it as per your system’s configuration.

Once this is done, you can go ahead with yum install to install packages from CDROM.

The issue as caused due to NetworkManager entires added into /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 file.

I removed the following entry from the above mentioned file :

NM_CONTROLLED=no

and turn the value to yes for

USERCTL=yes

Once this is done, I restarted network, ypbind and found it working.

This script create uid.domainname.com, gid.domainname.com, vhost.domainname.com passwd.domainname.com and shadow.domainname.com files for each domain which is hosted on the server.

aptitude install lxde lxde-common lxde-settings-daemon

Once installation is over, Logout and change the session to LXDE. This will take you to the desktop on LXDE environment.  All I need is more control on the theme and font sizes. Hope that will be taken care by the team soon.
