Government orders IT/BT/BPO sectors to declare holiday for all the employees on 15th August as a part of “Independence day” celebrations.  They even threaten to take action if they won’t do so. Isn’t it a foolishness?

For those who don’t think there is any foolishness, here I have my voice (Free speech as in FREEDOM) :

  • Its my country’s Independence day and I should not be sitting jobless. I should be working on Independence day to add more value to my country’s economy.
  • Inflation rate is growing every day. If we don’t work across the country for a day, we are at loss of millions of rupees. This money can bring in prosperity to my country and we can plan to bring down the inflation rate too.
  • Why target a sector when you can’t think of closing everything down?
  • Why leaves are being dictated? Don’t we who work in IT sectors have a freedom of choice to use the leaves as and when we require?
  • Building country is a mission critical operation. We need discipline followed by the armed forces to make the millions of Indians dreams come true. It does not require a day off to prepare ourself for the next year of independence.
  • There was not a single “DAY OFF” when our freedom fighters fought for our nation’s Independence. Then why TAKE OFF?
  • If there is a bomb in a corner of the road, entire state gives off for its schools and colleges its precautionary measure. Why off on a national day like “INDEPENDENCE DAY”? Is there any reason?
  • Why don’t you all call it a nationwide bhand (”राष्ट्रव्यापी बंद्”) if you want companies to call off even when there are people who think they want to work on such days to add a new value for the celebrations?
  • Is there any of your bureaucratic policy which stops a citizen of India stop from working on Independence day? Hope I don’t have a policy to breath.

I have lot many more questions like these. Why these questions won’t come in mind of those who are writing “RULES” for leading our nation? Are you lazy to sit at home instead of building the nation?

India is celebrating its 61st independence day on 15th August. Today I recalled my school days where in we used to talk about Independence day, freedom fighters, sacrifice and lot many things on stage. Till date we just talk or “celebrate” this day by taking a day off from work and spending time watching TV or spending money in shopping mall’s and what not isn’t it?

We are still living in a “Developing Country” where in we have got all that power required to be a “Super power” on this earth. We have spent more than half a century with the “Freedom” earned by our people, we all have the potential which is required for taking our country to the next level. But are we doing something? Are we at least asking our self  a question, “What I can do for my nation?” .

It’s time to think and start working towards making a difference. It’s possible to help the nation in suppressing the riots, ugly political games which are being played by state and central governments, poverty and lot many things. Hey it just takes a little effort from your end and you can  really “Do something for the nation”. To pay the tribute to those men and women who gave their life and who are giving life in the LOC, start doing something and that will the true celebration of “FREEDOM“.

Do something about it TODAY

It was great moving out of the city during the weekend with friends. We were planning to go to Savanadurga for months now. Here I have added few images which I captured in my Canon PowerShot A560. Savandurga is around 60 kms from Bangalore towards Magadi. I’m digging more into the history of this place to blog on.

Would you like to use your favorite browser in Kannada?

There have been lots of efforts put from many of our friends and Firefox Gran Paradiso is now available in your langauge. Download Kannada version for your Linux box here. Same can be found in other langauges and for other OS’s here. Kannada Rocks on Firefox now.

There are lots of OpenSource software which can bridge the gap between the conventional and non-conventional PC users if you make them available in Local Languages. One such software is OpenOffice. Check out if you can join hands together to make it available in Kannada.
