Microbloging with Pidgin

Loggin in to too many applications when you just have to get connected with others via various Microbloging websites? Check this out, I have found a way to integrate them all in pidgin.

I was searching for various ways to integrate them all for a while now. Started tweeting via jabber using a identi.ca and that was fun. Still, there are too many challenges.. I didn’t wanted to tweet few things via identi.ca, wanted to connect to Facebook and lot more. Is there any way I can integrate them all in Pidgin? Google said yes, there are many ways… I kept on searching to find a better option and each time I found a plugin or two. My search ended here.  This post on “nousessence” pointed me to a plug-in which I had tried some time back but haven’t tried it properly. Plugin named microblog-purple or mbpurple has got an easy way to integrate all microbloging websites on to your Pidgin.

To install this plug-in on Ubuntu just add couple of lines to apt source list as show below:

#sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

Add the following lines to gedit window

#Pidgin-Microblog
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/sugree/ubuntu jaunty main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/sugree/ubuntu jaunty main

And install the plug-in as follows

#sudo aptitude install pidgin-microblog

Start your pidgin, go to Accounts menu, Manage accounts and add your identi.ca, twitter, facebook and many  other microbloging accounts and you’re done.. You won’t require any other tool after this. This also adds and another plugin to Pidgin called Twitgin to help you with couple of extra features. Check this out and enjoy…

twitter_updates

Just few months back I had hopped into worlds famous microblogging website twitter.com and now I have more than 1000 updates registered on it. Why I count on all these numbers? I shall write about it in detail. Keep watching my blog space.

It has been real fun being on twitter. Lots of updates in a single place. It has really made me lots of those links which I normally miss while reading RSS feeds. I have even found lots of new friends on twitter. Lot more knowledge addition to my knowledge bank. Thanks twitter.

Twitter Glitches

Gmail/Yahoo won’t work  at times. Oh yeah… they say its available only for 99.9% even for their paid customers. So, you can surely expect some amount of downtime. Now, I have started feeling it with Twitter too (at times ;) ).

Twitter client Gwibber is also experiencing issues. As per one of the twitter update I found that, there has been slight change in twitter API that might have caused the issue. Check out “Bug in Gwibber” reported on launchpad. So, I have stopped using gwibber for a while now.

Between, I’m quite happy with the performance of the new version of tweetdeck twitter client. It’s fast, lets me group the twitter posts based on my friends list etc. It’s easy to install Adobe Air, required for installing tweetdeck on Ubuntu.

Happy Tweeting. It’s quite easy and powerful. Explore it today.. Now you can follow me on identi.ca as well..

Twitter celebrates its 3rd birthday

Social and Microbloging site Twitter.com celebrates it’s 3rd birthday. It was founded in year 2006. I found many tweets wishing twitter a very happy birthday.

I have been tweeting a lot these days and found it very handy as well as mobile (many of my tweets coming via my Motorola MotoMing A1200). You can see my tweets on right hand-side menu of my blog.

Twitter and Kannada

Micro blogging sites are very famous these days as there have been many hand held devices (I think we should stop calling them mobiles as we can do more things now). One of the best example is Twitter.com. Check my own Twitter blog here.

Its simple to blog into Twitter, as I can use my mobile, IM, Firefox and many more tools to tweet. Today I posted a tweet from my browser in my own language Kannada which appears just great on my Twitter page.

You don’t need to make any magic to blog in Kannada. All you need is a simple operating system like Ubuntu and SCIM to input the content in unicode. Try it today! Its fun to tweet…
