If you’re unable to access FPAdmin link via Plesk panel and in Setup page, Frontpage options are grayed you can quickly look through couple of things and get the issue resolved. (I was able to access the URL but Login prompt kept on popping up without allowing me in).
First look at the logs of your website. Normally you can find it at /home/httpd/vhosts/domainname.com/statistics/logs/error_log. This should point you to the root cause.
Here is one of the errors which I caught :
[Mon Oct 06 01:41:10 2008] [error] [client xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx] Options
FollowSymLinks or SymLinksIfOwnerMatch is off which implies that RewriteRule
directive is
forbidden: /home/httpd/vhosts/domainname.com/httpdocs/_vti_bin/_vti_adm/fpadmcgi.exe
It means, some of the Apache options are disabled. So, I went ahead and enabled the options required via .htaccess under /home/httpd/vhosts/domainname.com/httpdocs/ .
If you still fail to access the FPAdmin link, do change the password of the user, this can be done via console as follows:
htpasswd /home/httpd/vhosts/domainname.com/httpdocs/_vti_pvt/service.pwd Username
This will prompt you for the new password, enter the same and confirm it.
Once this is done, you should be good to go with it.
Even after this, if you’re not allowed to access FPAdmin, then you might be having some rewrite rules in .htaccess. Comment them all and hit refresh on your browser.
