Last Friday (28th Aug 2009), I attended a lecture on (ICTs for improving Agriculture and Livelihood in the Rural areas, by Mr. Michael Riggs (Officer (Knowledge and Information Management) with the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations)). Event was co-hosted by Center for Internet and society at Institute of Agricultural Technologists , Bangalore.
He explained how Information and Communication Technologies could be used in rural areas to share knowledge through mobile phones etc. How a community can help each other quickly using simple technologies by exchanging opinions, experiences, good practices and resources. He also explained how knowledge created through ICTs effectively shared and used worldwide through portals such as e-agriculture.org.

The lecture was very much informative. More than 80 people attended this event.
We (Sampada team) could give a glimpse of Krushi Sampada (https://krushi.sampada.net – Kannada e-agriculture portal by Sampada) to Mr. Riggs at the end of the talk. Hpn explained Riggs about the current activities of Krushi Sampada. We quoted this event during our Sunday’s Krushi Sampada meet-up held at CIS.
