Motorola Ming A1200 my new smart phone is just awesome. It gives me all freedom required to play around with the phone and its internals. It runs on “Linux” and it turned out to be a small PC for me. Mobile OS source code is available under GPL. What else is required to explore the mobile technology?
Check out Motorola product page to see its features and video here.

Are you interested in knowing what all I have done so far? here it is.
* First changed the theme and splash screen to iPhone themes
* Installed software installers to install .lin and .pkg files on my phone (I shall explain these in my future articles)
* Linux FileManager, SSH, Scientific calculator, inetd service manager, Mobile maps, eKonsole, Horsepower, reboot, Mobili Flash player, Quick notes, eBuddy messenger and many other applications were installed
* I installed “Need for Speed” along with Midnight pool game.
* iPhone lock which lets you slide the bar to unlock the phone, it was just fun
* I also installed a RDP client to access windows servers on my phone. So far it looks good. I have to give it a try.
* Regarding eKonsole, I just love it as it lets me work on Linux console. I have it’s screen captured (guess what, I used a screen capture applications on phone to take this pic
) .

* For restarting my phone, I need not touch the power button. I can just issue a reboot command or call the application name
* Voice recognition and Handwrite recognitions both are good features.
* Trying to test business card reader so far no luck with it.
* Trying to get “bar code reader” application working
* This phone can be turned into web cam also. Just got to figure out how?
* Real player again a nice applications which came inbuilt. Need my ogg files playing on it.
* Opera browser doing good, Unicode support looks good. Planning to have my WAP site up and running.
* Email application does a good job
* Trying to find a quick and easy way to sync data on Ubuntu.
* Bluetooth needs to be used for network services etc on Ubuntu .
