The 86 year old Hindustani Classical Music legend Pandit Bhimesh Joshi has been  awarded India’s highest civilian award “Bharat Ratna”.

He belongs to ‘Kirana’ gharana and have contributed to Indian Classical Music for 7 decades. Bhimesn Joshi was born in Gadag district of Karnataka on February 19, 1922.

Other prestigious honours awarded:

* Karnataka Ratna in 2005
* Maharashtra Bhushan in 2002
* Padma Vibhushan in 1999
* First platinum disc in 1986
* Padma Bhushan in 1985
* Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1976
* Padma Shree in 1972

After Sir. M Vishweshwaraiah, here comes the second Bharata Ratna for a Kannadiga.

Many of these legends were introduced to me via “Mile Sur Mera Tumara” song played on many occasions on national TV channel “Dooradarshan”. I was very young at that time and I could hardly understand the differernt languages used in this song to show the unity in diversity of our great nation. Here I share that video with you all. (found it on youtube few days back)
