Its a grand public event here in India. It was not celebrated in this fashion until 1893 social reform. This festival really united religiously diversified India. Freedom fighter, social reformer Lokamanya Tilak made it happen. I prefer to read more about this social reform on Wiki as it has been documented pretty well.
Ganesha, I took this pic early in the morning while driving back home.
People does not care whether it is raining or not. All they want is to worship the Lord. In India its a custom to start new work only after worshiping Lord Ganesha.
Its so joyful to see the celebrations through out India. Starting from the day one to all 10 days (ie from Bhadrapad Shudh Chaturthi to the Ananta Chaturdashi), idols are worshiped along with his mother Gowri. I like this festival for one more reason. I get to eat lots of special food. Waiting for my mom to prepare the same asap.
Wish you all a very happy Ganesha Chaturthi. May god bring you all a great success in life.
