We celebrated World Water Day at Madiwala lake yesterday. Madiwala Lake is one of the largest lakes in Bangalore. This lake also attracts many beautiful birds from various parts of the world even during summer. It’s under a threat today by people around it. Mainly builders, lobbyists and authorities. There are lots of issues around this lake and our friend Mulari has been spending lot of time with the community to improve the quality of the lake and save it for the future.

Madiwala Lake
This event tried to spread awareness among the people about water and water resources, how to find impurities in drinking water, birds around Madiwala lake etc. Friends from Arghyam (they also made this event possible) helped many participants to test water for Nitrate and Floride. They also explained us how contamination of water can affect our health. Pramod subbarao helped people to identify many birds found around Madiwala lake.

Crowd gathered at Madiwala lake
Few citizens staying around BTM Layout and Madiwala expressed their concern regarding the lake. They also came forward and said they will give all possible help to Murali and group. Spreading awareness about the water resources, its purity, ground water etc are keys to build the community participation in saving our lakes.
