He has got an eagle’s eyes and he has got a dream. Dream to reach the top of the world. He resembles Mohammad Ali. He made his opponents shudder with his lightning performance and the world was thrilled to see him in finals. He was almost there to make his dream come true. Yes, I’m talking about Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. The man who made it to the Australian Open - 2008 finals.

On 11th day of Australian Open, it was a game to see and it was electrifying. The stunning performance and confidence of this young star sent back the world’s top rank holder Spain’s Rafael Nadal back home. It took only 5 appearances for him to make it to Grand slam finals when it had taken Gazni efforts for others.

Serbia’s Novak Djokovic and Maria Sharapova proved the youth power again by lifting the Grand Slam at Australian Open and created yet another history yesterday.

How much does it take to “Create History” and who can do it?

Its you and me who can do it, all that it takes is our determination and hard work. Nothing is impossible when you set your goals straight and work towards achieve it. Grand Slam was won by 20 year old teens and tennis princess and glamor queen Sharapova won the title for the 3rd time. Isn’t that great!?

Why take examples of international stars? We have so many talents who are doing just great here in India and yes, I want to describe the “Gazal” program conducted near my house last week. The performer found to be 12 year old from a poor family. I haven’t got much details about this guy but willing to add more details about him as soon as I get to see the video recording. I think I really missed the program due to my heavy work schedules. I heard that there were more than 10000 people watching his rich performance at the event.

One of my mentor always used to say “Sky is the limit, think of it” and always advised me to think big. Today I think yes, I’m heading towards something big not big as sky but at least different that what ever I had thought in my student days. Have you ever thought of doing something great? Think of something which is just too big for you and start working on it. You too will be able to create history. Join hands with present and future to change the world.

I went out for a movie on Sunday after a long time and we found the movie every interesting and entertaining. Galipata as per every one’s expectation really had something new in it and song, direction, scenes were pretty good. So far so good.

When we started to walk out in the afternoon for lunch and also to finish some of our scheduled works, we found it very hard to be there on roads. Its irritating when we cannot follow the rules set by traffic police. We found roads and u-turns, one-way lines etc managed very badly. People rushing towards their destinations as though they have lost their senses. It was like we were there in some mechanical world which has got no life in it.

We discussed how the life is in villages, what happens in the life which is away from all these traffics etc. It was almost 10:00 when I reached back home and we had done nothing at all other than discussing where we are heading due to urbanization. Colors of this beautiful life were found to be shaded and we might loose all fun which we have at least in some corners today.

I think I lost the opportunity to roam around Bangalore which used to be well known for its weather. Its now known for its traffic, IT parks, shopping complexes, pollution and its growing population. People are heading towards Bangalore all around the world and they just want new opportunities. But hey listen I think there will be no life here which can listen to your pain or there will be no Oxygen to breath soon. We live with Corbon-Di-Oxide. We might wear masks to breath. We run on road always, day and night working for some one else and making few bucks and just forgetting to live peacefully.

This is not the time to relax, we are just getting burnt. What is our tomorrow in this city. Can I get to reach on time for the movie? Can I sit in a park which is not polluted. Will I get any one who can listen to me and Nature?

Its all about filling in confidence to explore a new world of possibilities. What can bring attention of a newbie to learn more about a technology? How we can make him/her hack into the in depth features of a technology to crack the master’s test? At the end at least we want him/her to be a jack of the technology to let him/her face the challenges which he/she may encounter in future.

Many people who peep into Open Source world know that its “hot” and many might not have got a chance to understand what is it all about. There are job opportunities, which demands little smartness from a newbie.

I got a chance to spend some time with around 20 fresh college graduates who are looking forward to make a great carrier in Open Source and learning Linux from scratch. Many of them have not looked into any “Operating System” or “Personal Computer” as administrators and it has been just used it as a machine to accomplish some of their projects forced by the educational system of our country. Few others have used it as an entertainment box, for playing games, music, videos etc. There is another bunch which is forced by this era to use computers to type in the resumes to grab new job opportunities available in the IT industry.

There have been lots of efforts put in to mold new techs in to better administrators from their user or power user status at work place. But always it lacked the zeal required to fill in the hackers attitude and passion for Open Source into their heart. This might be due to more theory which was poured into their mind instead of practical exposure which is a very essential part of a system administrator’s training life cycle.

We are working towards creating opportunities for those who are almost new to computers or at least new to Open Source. They need to be comfortable with the operating system and they must explore the “FREEDOM” of Free and Open Source software to gain the initial confidence and interest required to work as administrators. If a newbie finds the work as a monotonous process of remembering commands and repetitive tasks, he/she might not think of sailing in this sea for quite a long time. Linux wants newbies to create their own shields against the Gun shots of upcoming challenges, attacks, vulnerabilities and growth of technologies. Hence you never find the work to be boring. Working with Linux has never been found to be monotonous and repetitive for me so far and its always an adventure.

Bringing technology close to someone needs patience, self confidence on the technology, skills required to be one of those who are with us to learn it and little bit humor to fill in fun at the learning desk. Its always fun to explore what can be done with a gadget or a software, presenting what you feel about it to your audience will always be a challenge. A newbie finds it easy to explore the voyage during hands on training. Let him/her be free to try out new things and build a strong foundation with your guidance. Practice makes them perfect, show them how to climb to the top.

Here we start celebrating festivals for the year 2008. Today is Makara Sankranthi. Every year we celebrate this festival on Jan 14th or 15th without fail. Across India this festival is celebrated in different names like Pongal etc.

I really have no much interest in celebrating festivals. We normally don’t give much importance to celebrate festivals at home. My entire family is into business and they find the festive season to be too busy to give some personal space for celebrations. I remember celebrating Ganesha festival 8-9 years back and we stopped celebrating that festival also abruptly. As I grew up and started working, work place became one of my favorite places to spend the festival holidays.

I remember reading about Spirituality at work place in one of my management course material some time back. Which did mention about the importance of Spirituality at work place. I also got to hear from one of my friend about the “Bell” which they hang in Pizza Hut shops as a sign of spirituality. In my current company we get to celebrate various festival. Recently we did celebrate Id and Xmas, oh yes New year too. But celebrations of ‘Vijaya Dashami” at my previous work place are my all time favorite. Each staff used to put his own personal interest in decorating the institute for the festival and all of us used to have a gala time after pooja. I will never forget those days and I miss all that fun today.

One good thing about this year’s Sankranthi is that, I will be spending my time sharing knowledge with 20 new techs who have been recruited into our company.

Hey “Shankranthi” bring “Kranthi” in our lives. Brighten up our world. Bring in more prosperity. Let every one lead a rich life in 2008.

More on : Sankranthi

Article from Sampada which did catch my attention can be found here (Language : Kannada) : Click here Mr. Venkatesh explains us about this festival wonderfully.

Happy Shankranthi and Happy Pongal.

I had few complaints on my Ajax features installed on my blog. I just went through this cool Plugin called (AJAXed Wordpress) AWP. It forced me to exclude almost 75% of my other plugins . Now I can take care of many Ajaxed features via this plugin without pain. Thanks to AWP project members.

From project page :

AJAXed Wordpress (AWP), formerly know as INAP, is an extremely powerful AJAX plugin that harnesses the power of AJAX and Wordpress to improve the user experience, the administration capabilities and the design potential of any Wordpress based blog.

AWP’s basic features include inline paginated posts, inline comments, threaded comments, the ability to submit comments with AJAX, pagination of your homepage, live comment preview and much more, but it does not, however, force you to use any feature, and it also allows all aspects of the plugin to be easily customized through a single Administration panel.

AWP is built to integrate with other plugins and features an advanced module system—based off of WordPress’ plugin system—that allows it to be modified with the addition of third-party extensions. It also has special features that will ensure compatibility with many other plugins.

AWP is also search engine and user friendly. None of the AJAX or Javascript used in the base modules will interfere with SEO or Accessibility.
