Life at 16ft or 9100+ ft

After getting drenched in Ganga during our Auli trip @ Haridwar some how I started loving water sports more than ever.

To give a little background on my water adventures, We were at Dandeli last year for a short vacation, photography & birding at Ganesh Guri, as well as some adventure in Kali white water rafting. Oh yes, the bamboo rafting as well as boating near Jungle Lodges where we were staying. It had been an awesome experience!

Kali is one of the longest white water rafting destination in South India around 9km’s. Our captains were from Nepal and they were trained at Haridwar in Ganga. We literally had fun with a gang of some old men who were enjoying their retirement days. Trust me they were really a good sport. One of them were almost in his 70’s and had a leg operated almost 7+ times. He had settled in the middle and we had been in the middle of the roaring water for surfing against the water.

In February, we visited Auli for exploring north again (It has become a fun to be in Himalayas every year) and this time the target was to be on road trip. There was almost no trekking like our previous expeditions to Himalayas. Yay! that was not really fun 😛 I was just dumb founded to find the the roads build on the banks of Ganga, Alaknanda, Bramhaputra and many other revers, and mountains with scary land sliding areas. I shall share my experience walking on glacier may be some other time.

On our way to Auli, we had to settle near Haridwar for a day near Shivapuri. Here we spent our afternoon and next day morning doing 16km Rafting in Ganga. Pavithra and myself both enjoyed the longest rides to our hearts content. Rapid rounds are intensive, getting into the water with life jackets was little scary and chilling experience which I will never forget. When I was in water at Kali, it was my first time and holding a rope/boat and staying along was must! It was totally a different experience at Haridwar. I did feel myself moving around in water I felt almost numb in icy cold Ganges.

Today on my 14th day of swimming classes I could jump into 16 feet water without any fear and swim atleast for few strokes to reach for support wall. Living life is not so easy but also not so difficult. We learn as we move along. We can fly and we can swim. More than that we can feel it with a touch. Life!

Raagi biscuits: Specialty of Tumkur

Our tastebuds were rejoiced with specialty of Tumkur district “Raagi Biscuits“. In Karnataka Raagi is one of the major corp produced as well as consumed. Raagi mudde (Raagi Ball) and Upsaaru (Salt Sambar/Rasam) or Soppina Saaru is one of the best combinations for our farmers. Even we here in city like to have Raagi mudde as its very nutritious and healthy. Same thing is packed and given to you all via super markets as “Malt”.

Thanks to Bhushan and Mallikarjun for pointing it out while we were packing up from “Neera Nischinthe” program conducted to educate people about “Water Consorvation” in tumkur.

Eating healthy and Gaas poos

Many of you might have heard “Gaas poos” in the movie Cheenicum. It was used to address the hero (BigB) in the movie as he is a vegetarian by choice though he is one of the best cooks in that chainees restaurant of his own. Always, people make fun of those who eat veggies. Same thing happened with me today while I was eating “Veg  Salad” with some sauce of Honey, Almond and Mustard.  Here is how it looks when it get it packed to carry away. Full of vegetables and grains, corn etc.


Hmm, it was not all that yummy like the normal food. I took this because I was not feeling like eating food today and had little trouble digesting oily food too. So, this was one of the best option. Went to a nearest shop called “Namhadri’s” and bought one of this and also few apples and oranges. I always hated tomato’s and never used to have fresh fruits and vegetables regularly. I always had them along with my food during breakfast, lunch or dinner but I had never consumed them raw regularly. I always feel happy to be a veggie and I don’t mind if I don’t get too many options for the food. All I need is something that I like and something which doesn’t upset my tummy.

No offense. You eat what you like veg or non-veg. I have always found my self healthier than those who eat non-veg. Yeah, I’m little thin because I haven’t cared about my body much (I shall take care of it..). I recall few lines here as we talk about health and food.

ಒಪ್ಪತ್ತು ತಿಂದವ ಯೋಗಿ,

ಎರಡೊತ್ತು ತಿಂದವ ಭೋಗಿ

ಮೂರೊತ್ತು ತಿಂದವ ರೋಗಿ

ie. If a person eats food one time a day, he is Yogi (one who practices yoga and has achieved a high level of spiritual insight). If he consumes food twice a day, he is Bhogi (one who lavishly lives his life on earth). If he eats food for more than twice, he becomes a Rogi (patient or a unhealthy person). So, while you eat ensure you eat how much ever is required for the body to be healthy. Even if you eat one time you can be strong enough like Yogi.

Today due to advancements in technology, we are eating processed food which is not at all healthier. Even the veg salad which I had this afternoon might not be healthy as who know what chemicals they might have used. If we really check the food habits of our ancestors, they never really got to eat Pizzas but they really enjoyed the richness of food and lived happily for years without any illness. They had choices even when they got to eat only vegetarian food. Today if you really checkout the complete Indian menu, you really have a great amount of vegetarian food. For non-veg, I can’t really tell how many but I’m sure there are many. As per my experience Gaas poos is not bad at all and far better than eating non-veg. You always have options in front of you, and at times you might want to check which is good.

I thought of writing this piece of post because I wanted to capture all that comes in to my mind about health and food habits. I really never cared about the health so far but without health I will not be able to enojy what I do in life and I’m aware of that. I should correct myself by working on my food habits (Don’t worry, have no plans to try out non-veg).

Polio vaccination – not poison

I reached home very late today. While traveling I could see the unusual traffic. Many were walking to near by hospitals around west of chord road. As I reached my place, I could see that both roads where I normally travel were filled by worried people concerned about health of their kids. Kids were given polio drops today through out the country.

I turned on my TV to see if there is any news updates, then I could clearly understand what has happened so far from evening. It’s a rumor that has been spread across Bangalore, Mysore and other districts.

Doctors and Chief in-charge of this vaccination project have confirmed that, polio won’t cause any issues and we could see the reaction if there is any within 5 min’s. So, don’t panic. Take your kid to doctor if your kid’s health is upset.
